Things to Do at Accademia Gallery

Galleria dell'Accademia was founded in 1784 by Grand Duke Peter Leopold of Lorraine as a teaching facility for students of the Academy of Fine Arts. The undisputed centerpiece is Michelangelo's David, moved here from Piazza della Signoria in 1873 to protect it from weather damage. Walk through the Hall of the Colossus, examine Giambologna's plaster model for the Rape of the Sabine Women, and admire the collection of historical musical instruments.
